賞金総額110億円。Epic Gamesがeスポーツトーナメント「Fortnite World Cup」の開催を発表

　Epic Gamesは，発売中のバトルロイヤルゲーム「Fortnite」（PC/PlayStation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch）のトーナメントとなる「Fortnite World Cup」の開催を発表した。

　Fortnite World Cupは，4月13日から6月16日までの10週間にわたってオンライン予選が行われ，最終的にソロプレイヤー100人とペア50組の総勢200人が7月26日〜28日にニューヨークで開催される決勝戦に駒を進めることになる。
　驚きなのが賞金の規模で，オンライン予選では総額100万ドル（約1億1000万円）の賞金が毎週用意されており，決勝戦に進んだプレイヤーには5万ドル（約550万円）を支給。さらに優勝者（または優勝チーム）には3000万ドル（約33億円）の賞金が与えられるとのこと。賞金総額は1億ドル（110億円）が予定されている。

　参加資格として国籍は問われておらず，過去にEpic Gamesのサービスからバンされた経験がない13歳以上のプレイヤーなら誰でも挑戦できるという。ただし，13歳から17歳までは保護者の同意が必要になるほか，プレイヤーの在住する国の法律による一定の制限はあると思われる。
　本原稿の執筆時点で，エントリーの方法などは発表されていないが，「Fortnite」のプレイヤーなら注目すべきだろう。
