アメリカ陸軍に納入された訓練用ソフトをエンターテイメント用として変更を加え，THQから発売された「Full Spectrum Warrior」（Xbox版）は，"本物"が楽しめるとしてファンの心をわしづかみにしたタイトル。そのPC版のリリースが予定されていて，その日本語版がメディアクエストから発売されるというNewsを先日「こちら」でお伝えしたが，今回，正式に「フルスペクトラム ウォーリア 日本語版」の発売が決定した。
本作はシミュレーション部分に重心を置いていて，アメリカ陸軍の連隊で実施している訓練プログラムが体験できる。プレイヤーは分隊長として最大8人（分隊アルファーとブラボーの2チームを率いる）までの兵士に指示を出しながら，目標をクリアしていく。登場する兵器は現在実際に使用されているものが忠実に再現され，ミッションの内容も現在可能性が最も高いとされる"無秩序に陥った都市"が多く用意されている。ビルの物陰や小路，窓などに注意を払いながら進んでいくという，現代戦ならではのシチュエーションとなっているわけだ。
本来は，"軍隊内における軍隊規律と和を強化するための訓練補佐"を目的として開発されているため，FPSのような画面から受けるイメージとは裏腹に，アクション性は低め。兵士の状態も数値で表示されるのは少なく，声のトーンで把握しなければならないなど，シミュレータとしてのデキは高く，リアルさも十分。
発売は2004年秋の予定。スクリーンショットを見る限りは日本語ローカライズの進行度も結構進んでいるようなので，そろそろ発売日や価格の正式決定などの情報も出てくることだろう。もう少しの辛抱だ。（Seal）
