あのMagic: The Gatheringの基本無料型オンラインゲーム「Magic: The Gathering - Tactics」が，1月18日に正式サービス開始

　Sony Online Entertainmentは，Free-to-Play型オンラインゲーム「Magic: The Gathering - Tactics」の，PC版正式サービスを2011年1月18日に開始する。本作に関してはPlayStation 3版の開発も進められているが，こちらはまだ「2011年内にローンチ」というステータスになっている。

　Magic: The Gathering（以下MtG）は，日本でも人気の高い，トレーディングカードゲームの草分け的な存在。スペルやクリーチャーの描かれたカードを組み合わせて自分の“デッキ”を作り上げ，対戦相手と戦うという，この作品のゲーム内容は非常に奥が深く，一度そのストラテジックな魅力にとりつかれると，なかなか抜け出せない。

　今回正式サービスが始まる「Magic: The Gathering - Tactics」は，MtGの持つ面白さのエッセンスを受け継ぎつつ，PCゲーム用に，グラフィカルで遊びやすい内容へとアレンジされた作品だ。トレーディングカードゲームであるMtGそのままのルールでの対戦が楽しめるものではない。


　プレイヤーがログインすると最初に見ることになるポータル画面には，新たなカードが購入できるショップ機能や，対戦相手が簡単に見つけられる機能，ほかのプレイヤーとカードをやりとりするためのオークション機能などが用意されている。このあたりは，これまでにSony Online Entertainmentが培ってきたノウハウが十分に活かされている部分だ。

　本作のビジネスモデルは，クライアント＆基本プレイ料金無料という最近の風潮に則った内容となっている。ゲーム内にはチュートリアルや，ソロプレイ用のキャンペーンも用意されており，ソロプレイでもある程度は楽しめるので，まずは気軽に試してみるというのもありだろう。
