「Battlefield 3」では，ドッグタグのカスタマイズも可能に。ナイフによる至近距離戦闘がさらにヒートアップする予感

　「Battlefield」シリーズの公式ブログが更新され，「Battlefield 3」（PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）にはプレイヤーがカスタマイズできる「ドッグタグ」（Dogtag）が登場することが明らかにされた。

　ドッグタグとは――釈迦に説法かもしれないが――兵士が首からぶら下げている認識票のことで，犬の鑑札に似ていることから，アメリカ軍ではスラングとしてドッグタグと呼ぶようになった。戦争映画で，戦死した兵士のタグを持ち帰るというシーンを見たことがある人も多いはずだ。
　Battlefieldシリーズでは，ナイフキルした場合に相手のドッグタグを獲得できるというシステムがあり，ファンにはおなじみの小道具だ。ナイフキルが得意な人が腕を自慢するときに，大いに役に立つ。

　Battlefield 3のドッグタグは，プレイヤーがかなり自由にカスタマイズできるとのことで，せっかく凝って作ったドッグタグを簡単に奪われるわけにはいかないだろう。ゲームエンジンである「Frostbite 2」の機能の一つであるアニメーション技術，「ANT Technology」により，ナイフでの攻撃や刺された側の動きもリアルになっただけに，至近距離での戦いがヒートアップすること，間違いなしだ。
