GameFlood，賞金総額2万5000ドルのMODコンテストの入賞者発表

　アメリカのMOD関連情報サイト，GameFloodが開催していたMODコンテストの入賞者が発表された。賞金総額2万5000ドルのこのコンテストは，FPSとRTS，そしてRPGのさまざまなタイトル用のMODとMAP，さらにmini-MODの中から優れた作品を選ぼうというもの。候補作はまず読者投票によって各ジャンル10本に絞られ，ゲームデザイナーやプロデューサーなどからなる審査員によって上位3名（mini-MODは優勝者1名のみ）が選ばれた。
　入選作を見ると，「Battlefield 2」用の「Project Reality」や，「Civilization IV」用の「Fall from Heaven II」といった有名MODが，貫禄の受賞を果たしているようだ。ちなみに金賞のFall from Heavenは最新拡張パック「Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword」にも採用されている。
　RPGでは，「The Elder Scrolls III：Morrowind」と「The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion」に入賞者が集中しており，人気の高さはもちろんだろうが公式MODツールの存在の大きさも窺える。「Half-Life 2」でCo-opが楽しめる「Follow Freeman HL2 Co-op Beta 2」や，「Company of Heroes」の新マップ「D-DAY Coop」なども面白そうだ。
　いまさらながら，あちらの「MOD文化」の奥深さが感じられて，うらやましい気がしてくる。デベロッパ側でも，MODコミュニティを取り込むことで自社のゲームのコンテンツをさらにリッチにしていく方法論などが語られ始めており，MOD作りはこれからも熱心に行われるだろう。いずれにしろ，BF2，さんざん遊んじゃったけどまだ遊びたい，という人はGameFloodの公式サイトを覗いてみるといいかも。入賞作以外のも，さまざまなタイトルに対応したたくさんのMODが掲載されているのだ。
　ちなみに，優勝者には賞金とLogitechキーボードなど3000ドル分が贈られるとのこと。また次のコンテストも開催されるようなので，我こそはと思う人はぜひ挑戦しよう。（松本隆一）
