アメリカ現地時間の2月8日夜，ラスベガスのHard Rock Cafe Hotel & Casino内の多目的ホールThe Jointにおいて，インタラクティブ・アチーブメント賞（Interactive Achievement Award）が発表された。
インタラクティブ・アチーブメント賞は，パネリストとなった225人のAIAS会員によって選ばれるもので，各ジャンル別のゲーム賞だけでなく，アートやサウンドなどへの功績も評価し，その賞の総数は30を超える。ノミネートされたソフトの開発に携わった人達は，まるでアカデミー賞のようにレッドカーペットの上を歩き，コメディアンのJay Mohr（ジェイ・モーア）氏が司会進行を務めるなど，かなり本格的なイベントである。
ゲーム業界随一の美男子，Oddworld InhabitantsのLorne Lanning（ローン・ラニング）氏。現在は，ロサンゼルスの美術館で開催されているゲームアート展の審査員などで活躍している

今年は，アメリカで大きな人気を集めたMレーティング（17歳以上）の過激アクションゲーム「God of War」（PlayStation 2）が，ゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤーを含める7部門を制覇。5部門を獲得した音楽ゲーム「Guiter Hero」の健闘も目立っている。日本のソフトとしては，発売以来開発者やゲーマーの間で評価の高い「Nintendogs」（ニンテンドッグス）と，「Shadow of the Colossus」（ワンダと巨像）のノミネートが多かったものの，ともに2部門ずつという結果になった。
PCゲーム部門では，「Battlefield 2」がゲーム・オブ・ザ・イヤーとFPS部門の二つで受賞。ほかには，ストラテジー部門で「Sid Meier's Civilization IV」が，シミュレーション部門で「The Movies」が，MMORPG部門では「City of Villans」と「Guild Wars」が受賞した。

インタラクティブ・アチーブメント賞では，毎年一人が「Hall of Fame」としてAIASの殿堂入りを果たすが，今年選出されたのは，あの「ロード・ブリティッシュ」ことRichard Garriott（リチャード・ギャリオット）氏である。1981年の「Akalabeth」以来，UltimaシリーズでRPGのジャンルを常にリードし，さらには商業的に初めて成功したMMORPG「Ultima Online」を作り上げた功績が認められたのである。会場には夫人や母親も同席しており，その喜びもひとしおだったようだ。

左：プロデュースした「God of War」が大きな評価を得たSCEAのDavid Jaffe（デイビッド・ジャッフェ）氏。移動の激しいアメリカでは珍しく，すでに同社に13年間在籍している。以前は「Twisted Metal」シリーズを手がけていた 中央：このような会合でも，あまりドレスアップしているようには見えないSid Meier（シド・マイヤー・右）氏と，新たな右腕Soren Johnson（ソーレン・ジョンソン）氏。今回は，「Sid Meier's Civilization IV」がストラテジー部門で受賞した 右：ミュージカルゲストとなったClear Staticのメンバー。かなりすがすがしいノリの音楽で，あのデュランデュランのUS/UKツアーの前座を務めた。まもなくファーストシングルの「Make-Up Sex」がリリースされる予定だ
