コンシューマー機向け「Battlefield 3」は，解像度720pで30fps。EA DICEがイギリスの情報誌に語る

　超ハイクオリティなグラフィックスで知られる「Battlefield 3」（PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）だが，デベロッパであるEA DICEのレンダリングアーキテクト，Johan Andersson氏がイギリスのゲーム情報サイトDevelopに語ったところによると，コンシューマ機版のゲーム画面は解像度720pで30fpsであるという。

　Andersson氏は記事中，「PlayStation 3やXbox 360のタイトルの99.9％は解像度が720pに固定されています。また，例えば1024×600ドット，2×MSAAで動くCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2のように，それ以下のものも少なくありません」と指摘している。ただし，Developの記事によれば，Modern Warfare 2は60fpsをサポートしている。

　Battlefield 3が30fpsに抑えられているのは，巨大なマップを舞台に乗り物が走り回ったり，多くの建物が倒壊可能であるという情報量の多さからだろう。マップに関しては，PC版に比べてコンシューマ機版がかなり小ぶりになることが以前から明らかにされているが，正確には徒歩で行ける場所に制限がかけられているだけで，航空機ならPC版と同じ空域を飛べるという。
　ともあれ，これまで公開されているPC版並のグラフィックスがコンシューマ機で可能なのかということについては，「疑わしい」とする意見も少なからずあったが，やはり，それなりのトレードオフは要求されるようだ。
　PlayStation 3版のプレイの模様は，現地時間の6月17日に北米で放映された人気テレビ番組「Late Night with Jimmy Fallon」で紹介され，公式ブログからそのシーンを見ることができる（要年齢認証）。パッと見にはPC版とそれほど変わらないようにも思えるが，どうだろうか？

　Battlefield 3は，欧米では2011年10月25日に発売される予定。日本では，現時点では「2011年秋」となっており，詳しい日付は発表されていないが，予約特典として「Back to Kirkand」が同梱される予定になっている。
