「指輪物語」をベースとするMMORPGのライセンス契約が2014年まで延長

　MMORPG「The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar」を開発/運営しているTurbineは，J.R.R.トールキンの「The Hobbit」「The Lord of the Rings」をベースとするMMORPGの開発/運営に関するライセンス契約を2014年まで延長することで，Tolkien Enterprisesと合意に至ったことを明らかにした（発表文）。
　なお今回の合意には，ライセンス契約を2017年まで再延長できるオプションが含まれている。

　ご存じのように，日本ではさくらインターネットが，「ロード・オブ・ザ・リングス・オンライン アングマールの影」として本作のサービスを行っている。
　英語版では，大型アップデート「Book 12」が実装されたばかりで，日本語版でも，「第十二巻『灰燼の荒野』」として実装される予定だ。
