Frostbite 2エンジンの威力を見よ！　マップを破壊し尽くす「Battlefield 3」の最新ムービーと，新たな画像が公開

　Electronic Artsは，北米で10月25日に発売されるミリタリーFPS「Battlefield 3」（PC/PlayStation 3/Xbox 360）の最新ムービーを公開した。「The Pillars of Battlefield 3: Destruction」と名付けられたこの映像は，ゲーム中のオブジェクト破壊シーンを集めたもので，電波塔や高層ビルが次々に吹き飛ぶダイナミックな映像が収められている。今回はDestructionについてだが，今後，Battlefield 3の特徴を収めたムービーが順次，公開されていくことになりそうだ。

　ご存じのようにBattlefield 3は，EA DICEの最新ゲームエンジン「Frostbite 2」によって開発が進められており，その特徴の一つがリアルな物理効果となっており。このムービーでは，少なくとも16種類の異なるタイプの破壊シーンが確認でき，そのほとんどがリアルタイムで処理されている。
　「Battlefield: Bad Company」シリーズと同じく，マップにある大量のオブジェクトを破壊することが可能なほか，今回のムービーのラスト付近に収められた，カンダハル崩壊シーンのように，かなりスケールの大きな演出も用意されているようだ。
　また，新しいスクリーンショットも公開されたので，合わせてここに掲載した。


　CryTekの「CryENGINE 3」やEpic Gamesの「UnrealEngine 3」といった高性能なゲームエンジンに比べても遜色はなく，発売後，どのように評価されるのか興味深い。もっとも，PC版については要求するスペックもそれなりに高く，戦闘機が縦横無尽に飛びまわる広大な戦場を心ゆくまで堪能するため，パーツショップに走っているファンも多いだろう。
