GTAファンが待ちに待った，PC版「Grand Theft Auto IV」の発売が決定

　Take-Two Interactiveは北米時間の8月6日，傘下のデベロッパ，Rockstar Gamesが開発した，Grand Theft Autoシリーズ最新作「Grand Theft Auto IV」のPC版を，北米で2008年11月18日に，またヨーロッパ地域で11月21日にそれぞれ発売すると発表した。


　Grand Theft Auto IVは架空の都市Liberty City（リバティシティ）を舞台に，旧ユーゴスラビアからアメリカンドリームを求めてやって来たNiko Bellic（ニコ・ベリック）が，仲間と共に裏社会で成り上がっていくというクライムアクション。
　「Grand Theft Auto III」（2001年），「Grand Theft Auto: Vice City」（2002年），そして「Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas」（2004年）と立て続けにメガヒットを飛ばしてきた怪物シリーズの最新作は，プラットフォームを次世代コンシューマ機に移したことで，さらに詳細になったグラフィックスが大きな特徴だ。
　上記三作は，まずコンシューマ機版がリリースされたあと，半年ほどおいてPC版が発売されるというダンドリを踏んできたので，いずれPC版も出るだろうと予想されていたものの，なかなか正式発表がなくて気をもんでいたのも事実である。
　4月に北米で発売されたコンシューマ機版Grand Theft Auto IVが販売後わずか1週間で600万本以上の売り上げを達成したことや，外伝的作品である「Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories」と「Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories」のPC版がついに作られなかったこと。さらには例の「Hot Coffee事件」（関連記事）や，Nintendo DS版の「Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars」の制作が発表されたことなどから，「こりゃ，PC版ないかな」という観測も一部であったため，こうして正式にアナウンスされたことはファンにとって嬉しい話だ。

　PC版でどのような変更などが加えられるのか（あるいは加えられないのか）といった詳細は，後日改めて発表されるようだ。

• 最後のミッションまであと一歩に迫ったPC版「GTA4」連載，「ニコの海岸物語 in Liberty City」の最終回を掲載
